About this blog, or about things that are about this blog.
My blog (such as it is) went unreachable for a while. I apologize for that. In addition, I've managed to lose some posts - about two years worth. Given the rate I post, that worked out to 8 entries. Of course, they were my best entries ever.
So back up and running, and may have a post or two this year.
It also seems as though many of the posts got reordered and re-dated. All of these issues are attributable to my horrible backup policy of "occasionally backup, never verify"
I've upgraded from .Text 0.95 (yes, quite old) to Subtext. I had some issues with the .text import where I had to basically do everything manually (yuck) but here I am. The problems were all in the sql script, so I'd advise just running it manually from the get go. However, if you have problems getting my feed or whatever, please let me know. I'm not 100% confident that I got everything over with zero problems.
And, I'm excited to start posting more often. I've had many things lately that I wanted to blog on, but .text issues and time constraints caused me to abort...
Due to mass comment spam, I'm turning on moderation (that I got from Don XML, with his .text moderation modifications entry). I did not enable the CAPTCHA stuff yet (from Miguel Jimenez’s HIP-CAPTCHA Control), because I hate to annoy anyone who may want to comment, but I will turn it on without further hesitation if need be.
However, the thing that's most important to me is now done - I will no longer give Google Juice to spamming losers. (The regular kind of loser can comment here and get juice if they want, as long as it's on topic)
It's not bad enough that there's remote code execution exploits with the “more secure than ever” windows 2003 server... but to fix them, we have to take our sites down and reduce reliability numbers as well. Got any more salt for that cut?
If you hit my blog (here), or the VS 2005 “community readme” last night at 5:13, you may have noticed that you didn't get a response. That's because there is apparently no possible way to copy new files to my machine without rebooting it.
So here's a wish for the longhorn server team (whoever you may be): figure out your...
Not that you can tell from my blogroll, but I subscribe to about 240 feeds. (by “about” I mean “exactly 240 feeds”). I love having lots of news, but lately clearing out my aggregator has seemed more like a chore than a joy.
I didn't use a computer at home for two days, and I have abount 400 unread items (by “about” I mean “I think it's 400 but it may be anywhere from 73 to 931, inclusive”). Will I read all of these? not a chance. I'll probably miss something cool.
Is 240 feeds too many for a person who doesn't...
I really don't like to move my blog. Not because it confuses readers (I don't really have any). Not because it kills my google juice (I don't care -- that much), but because it constitutes work on my part (I'm lazy).
But I'm doing it anyway. I really like being a part of weblogs.asp.net, and I'll probably keep crossposting my .net development stuff there. But I want to be my own master, not part of a managed community - so here I am.
You may have seen me on my first attempt, my second blog, or the other second blog -- but now...
